Introduction to temperature control thermostats, bulb and capillary type, adjustable setpoint mounted in Ex “e” housing

The thermostats described in the preceding pages, under the KA series, offer a vast array of approved variations:
adjustment shafts, wire or cable exits, DIN rail mounting (or not), breaking capacity, adjustment ranges, capillary protection, etc. The Y92 and Y93 enclosures, also described in the preceding pages, likewise offer countless approved variations: cable gland types, exit types, mounting base shape, plates and rails, terminal blocks, etc. The thermostat +enclosure combinations are therefore also innumerable, although simple to implement since all variations have been
studied.
However, it is not possible to describe them all individually in this catalogue. The part number for the thermostat +enclosure assembly is created by combining the two part numbers, starting with the enclosure part number.

Among the thermostat models, it is necessary to define those that can be installed in the Y92 and Y93 series housings. There are two main categories:
- 1/ KA thermostats with connection wires (usual) or cable (not usual). To be installed in hazardous area, they must be protected by an enclosure. Therefore, this enclosure must be of the “e” type, waterproof and with special connection blocks. JPCI enclosures are designed to use the cheapest KA thermostat model, wires connection, with mounting by 2 screws backside without Din Rail.
- 2/ KA thermostats sold without JPCI enclosure, to be used with other company “e” enclosure. Most of time, thermostat assembly is made inside them by 35mm Din Rail, so we have the DIN rail mounting option, but foot print of thermostat is higher, as the price

General Rules for Installation:
Important Note: These bulb and capillary thermostats are intended to monitor or control temperatures in gas or dust hazardous areas, by being mounted on pipes, in particular for electrical tracing applications. PPS enclosure and stainless-steel accessories allow their use in industrial or marine environments, including in cold polar areas

For gas hazardous areas, this equipment is approved as “Ex-eb db” and is suitable for use in zone 1 and zone 2, gas group IIC (Hydrogen/Acetylene, the highest protection group), with a temperature classification T6;

For dust hazardous areas, this equipment is approved as “Ex-tb”, suitable for use in zone 21 and zone 22, the dust group is IIIC (electric conductive dust, the highest protection group), with ambient temperature limits on its body from -60°C to +70°C. The thermostat, box and terminal block assembly is an inseparable unit.

Ambient temperature on the enclosure may also be limited by the maximum ambient temperature allowed on the temperature sensing element (See the parts numbers table).

Approvals: These thermostats are certified: Atex: TÜV 22ATEX 8893 X; IECEx: TUR 22.0058X ; CCCEx : pending

Housing:
Electrical connection: On internal terminal block for conductors from 0.5mm² to 4mm², or from 1 to 6mm² tightening by screw. There are two ground terminals on the terminal block and one on the thermostat body.

Cable glands: An M20 cable gland and an M25 cable gland are incorporated as standard on the right side.

Assembly: On pipes, by hose clamp (10 × 35mm passage allowing two clamps side by side).

Maximum temperature supported by the pipe mounting foot: 220°C

Options:
- These enclosures can receive thermostats with sealed fixed setting (Type Y92****KAF***). See pages of thermostats without enclosure for more information.
- Leg with cable gland for special sized heating cables.
- Cable glands can be fitted with special bolts for use with electrical cable protection tubes with Atex approvals.
